Departure

The Khira Crew is getting ready to untie the dock lines!

In 1996 and 2003 we sailed from Maine to the Bahamas aboard “old Khira,” a 1965 forty-one foot Sparkman and Stevens wooden sloop. On that initial ocean voyage Robin was in kindergarten and we came home happily anticipating her sibling! Six years later we did the same trip with both girls, Robin in seventh grade, and Ivy in kindergarten. We had  fabulous adventures on a beautiful old wooden boat with no refrigeration or shower.

Old Khira got so much attention with her bright mahogany hull.

Five years ago we purchased Khira II, a navy hulled forty-four foot Mason sloop, and this time David and Judith will be heading east from Lake Superior with only Scooter the cat as crew. The hardest part of untying dock lines will be saying goodbye to the girls. We hope Robin and Ivy will join us as at some point, or at several points, as we'll miss them like crazy, and they are our favorite crew members!

  3. We were thinking of you during this recent storm, where did you end up hiding it out? Hopefully no problems. We're up on the boat now hoping to take a trip, but Canada is still not very hospitable, and summer is over it's cold and 30 knot winds. At least 20. Winds right in the harbor next to where you used to be!
